Character Name: Jayce Talis
Character Canon: Arcane
Canon Point: Immediately post s2e3
Age: 31

Crime: Abuse of the arcane: A lot of the gravest consequences to Jayce's actions come from the misuse of Hextech from its intended purpose of helping people, whether it's creating weapons, using the Hexcore to heal Viktor despite his warnings, or the anomaly effects spilling into the Undercity thanks to overextension of Hextech.

Background: Wiki link

Personality: From the outside, it seems no mystery why Jayce has been dubbed the golden boy of Piltover. Brilliant, kindhearted, and idealistic to a fault, Jayce dreams of making the world a better place via revolutionizing the use of magic to improve the lives of the common people. Though he can be rather vain - there's really no other explanation why someone would unironically use a mug with their own face on it - his motives are genuinely altruistic and mostly selfless; he expresses frustration at having spent so much time building the Hexgates at the Council's bequest rather than helping the Undercity as they'd originally intended, and he recommends immediately shutting down Hextech when one of the gems is stolen in order to protect the people, even though it would mean the halt of his life's work and a massive blow to his reputation.

Unfortunately, his idealism can bleed over into naivete, blinding him to his own privilege as well as the harsher realities of the world. Whether it's getting ripped off because he won't haggle, or having his creation monetized to further the wealthy rather than the disenfranchised, or being shocked that the council would prioritize their profit over the safety of the city, Jayce's instinct to see the best in people tends to bite him in the ass more often than not. This is only further exacerbated when he's pushed into politics; he immediately throws himself into eradicating all corruption, unaware of how impossible a task this is or how high up the ladder the corruption goes. His failure to find perfect solutions to the city's problems, as well as having to compromise on his convictions to get anything done, eventually sends him spiraling down worse and worse decisions as he desperately tries to fix a system that he only learns too late has always been broken.

Not helping his rather disastrous stint as a Council member is the fact that outside of his field of expertise in science, Jayce doesn't actually have much faith in himself or his decisions, especially once his idealism has been shattered. He's constantly questioning what the right choice to make is, often seeking out other people for advice rather than relying on his own convictions. He relies a lot on external validation, to the point where he nearly commits suicide because nobody believes in him or his Hextech dream anymore. This, coupled with his people-pleasing tendencies, means that it's rather easy to persuade him into changing his mind on something he's already uncertain about, or pushing him into a course of action he suspects may be unwise, or getting him to agree to something he doesn't really want to do. That said, he's by no means a pushover once he actually latches onto something he full-heartedly believes in; for instance, he has no problem standing up to the Council in order to fight for Zaun to become a fully independent nation.

He's also painfully earnest and usually wears his heart on his sleeve. Outside of playing nice for politics and sponsorships, Jayce doesn't really believe in hiding his feelings - and boy, does he have a lot of them. While this allows him to be emotionally vulnerable even to his enemies in a way that's shockingly healthy for this series, it can also be to his detriment on the all too frequent occasions he gives in to his hot head and makes impulsive decisions. Even when told to keep his mouth shut about magic, it takes all of five minutes under questioning for Jayce to furiously spill all the beans about his extremely illegal experiments because his pride was rankled. Similarly, his simmering anger drives him to join Vi in taking down a Shimmer factory, even though he'd started off a pacifist against the weaponization of Hextech; it's only when he accidentally kills a child in the line of fire because he'd been so lost in adrenaline and rage that he finally realizes how far he's fallen.

Still, it usually isn't his temper that drives Jayce to make his most extreme actions, but rather love. Jayce will do absolutely anything for the people he cares about, regardless of consequences or morals or his own internal conflict. Even though it clearly is killing him to do so, he turns on Heimerdinger and has him removed from office because he'd been impeding the research into curing Viktor's terminal disease. He forges a sniper rifle for Caitlyn despite having just recently vowed to never weaponize Hextech again, and he uses the Hexcore to save Viktor's life even after promising Viktor he would destroy it. If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, he's built an entire freeway straight there.

Abilities: Jayce's primary skill lies in his genius level intellect when it comes to science, particularly in fields related to physics and engineering. He is also a master blacksmith capable of forging complex mechanisms and advanced weaponry. His work in the forge has made him strong enough to easily swing around a massive hammer, but he actually has very little combat prowess when not wielding overpowered weaponry.

Inventory: His journal and a screwdriver.

Samples: TDM TL and sample
